Year Built

Definition

The year a property was originally constructed. Critical for understanding maintenance needs, insurance costs, building codes, potential issues (lead paint, asbestos, knob and tube), and property value in Massachusetts' historic housing stock.

Example

Homes built before 1978 require lead paint disclosure. Pre-1940 homes may have knob and tube wiring and foundation issues. Post-2000 homes typically meet modern energy codes.
