Straw Buyer
Definition
An individual who purchases property on behalf of another person who wants to conceal their identity or who cannot qualify for financing. Used in fraud schemes to obscure true ownership and facilitate illegal transactions.
Example
A person with poor credit uses a straw buyer with good credit to purchase a property. The straw buyer obtains the mortgage, then transfers the property, masking the true owner and facilitating equity stripping.
