Possession

Definition

The right to occupy and use a property. Typically transfers at closing, but may be delayed in rent-back arrangements where the seller remains in the property after closing, paying rent to the buyer.

Example

Closing occurs on March 1st, but the seller needs until March 31st to move. You agree to a 30-day rent-back, giving the seller possession until March 31st while you receive $150/day rent.
