Party Wall

Definition

A shared wall between two adjoining rowhouse or townhouse units, sitting on the property line. Both owners share responsibility for maintenance and repairs. Common in Boston's South End, Beacon Hill, North End, and Cambridge rowhouse districts.

Example

Your Charlestown rowhouse shares party walls with neighbors on both sides. When repointing the facade, you must coordinate with neighbors and share costs for work on shared walls.
