Property Tax Deduction (SALT)

Definition

Federal deduction for state and local taxes, including property taxes. Capped at $10,000 total for all state and local taxes (SALT cap).

Example

If you pay $15,000 in Massachusetts property taxes and $5,000 in state income tax, you can only deduct $10,000 total on federal returns.
