Pre-Qualification

Definition

A preliminary assessment of how much you might be able to borrow based on self-reported financial information. Less thorough than pre-approval and not a commitment from the lender.

Example

A pre-qualification might estimate you can borrow $600,000-$700,000, but it's not verified and doesn't carry the same weight as a pre-approval with sellers.
