The ratio of operating expenses to gross rental income. Used to assess how efficiently a property is managed.

Formula

Operating Expense Ratio = (Operating Expenses ÷ Gross Rental Income) × 100

Example

Operating expenses of $22,000 on rental income of $72,000 equals a 30.6% operating expense ratio. Typical range is 25-45%.
