Non-Conforming Use

Definition

A property use that was legal when established but no longer complies with current zoning regulations. Typically "grandfathered" and allowed to continue, but may have restrictions on expansion or rebuilding.

Example

A Winchester home converted to a two-family before zoning changed to single-family only is a non-conforming use. You can continue renting both units but may not expand.
