Mortgage Commitment

Definition

A lender's formal, written approval of your mortgage application after underwriting review. More binding than pre-approval and typically issued after property appraisal and final verification. Valid for 30-90 days.

Example

After underwriting reviews your $650,000 loan application and the property appraises at value, the lender issues a mortgage commitment letter valid for 60 days, allowing you to proceed to closing.
