Mill Rate

Calculation

Definition

The amount of tax per $1,000 of assessed property value. Also called tax rate. Varies widely by Massachusetts municipality.

Formula

Property Tax = (Assessed Value ÷ 1,000) × Mill Rate

Example

Winchester's mill rate of $15.50 means you pay $15.50 in tax for every $1,000 of assessed value.
