Foreclosure Rescue Scheme

Definition

A fraud where scammers target distressed homeowners, promising to save their home while actually stripping equity and leaving the owner with nothing. Victims often lose their home and any remaining equity.

Example

A homeowner facing foreclosure is approached by a "rescue" company promising to save their home. The company takes title, extracts equity through refinancing, then defaults, leaving the homeowner with nothing.
