Counter-Offer

Definition

A response to an initial offer where the seller proposes different terms (price, closing date, contingencies, etc.). The buyer can accept, reject, or make another counter-offer.

Example

You offer $700,000. Seller counters at $725,000 with a 45-day closing. You counter at $715,000 with 30-day closing, and seller accepts.
