Definition

A tax-deferred exchange allowing real estate investors to sell a property and reinvest proceeds in a like-kind property while deferring capital gains taxes.

Example

Sell a Boston investment property for $800,000 with $200,000 in gains, then purchase a $900,000 property in Winchester, deferring all capital gains taxes.
