Weighted Criteria
Definition
A decision-making approach where different factors are assigned different levels of importance (weights) based on personal priorities. The sum of all weights must equal 100%. Each criterion is scored, then multiplied by its weight, and all weighted scores are summed for a final score.
Formula
Final Score = (Criterion1 × Weight1) + (Criterion2 × Weight2) + ... + (CriterionN × WeightN)
Example
When comparing towns, you might weight Schools at 40%, Commute at 30%, Price at 20%, and Community at 10%. A town scoring 9/10 in Schools, 7/10 in Commute, 6/10 in Price, and 8/10 in Community would get: (9×0.4) + (7×0.3) + (6×0.2) + (8×0.1) = 7.7/10 final score.
