How We Calculate Value Score

The Value Score measures how much quality you get per dollar spent. It's not just about finding the cheapest town—it's about finding the best deal for what you care about.

We score each town on 4 factors:

  • Schools - GreatSchools rating, SAT scores, graduation rates
  • Commute - Drive/transit time to Boston, with penalties for long commutes
  • Appreciation - Historical 5-year property value growth
  • Home Quality - Square footage, lot sizes, overall market strength

Then we divide the composite quality score by the price index to get quality per dollar. Higher scores mean better value—you're getting more for your money.
